It is a sad commentary of our present state of affairs, that is honouring
people who make the ultimate sacrifice.
In addition to remembering the late Mr. Bhandari, if we could, I am sure lot
of our board members who are politically very well connected should take
lead in lending every support to his family. I mean helping to raise this
issue in public and legal forums like parliament, assembly etc., If I may
remind, I read many articles about Kargil heroes and their families how they
got a raw deal from the government. As a matter of fact our media is more
busy covering every bit of celebrity weddings and other sensational
non-issues. We have so many forgotten heroes and their families struggling
to survive in day to day life. Our heroes are not just heroes they are in
core bread winners of their families too. It is not just enough giving them
monitory support. We as a Government have to provide every bit of support
like their children's education, housing etc., As far as I remember our own
AP government did not provide any government plots to our AP war heroes (I
will be very happy If somebody says contrary). And also we have a very good
tradition of honouring war heroes during national public holidays but zero
in bringing in some sort of legislative measures either at state or Central
level. Ours is a proud society that we elect criminals to make laws for us.
As we remember how Mr Veersavarkars name was pulled into controversy by
our own law makers. No wonder what has happened to late Mr.Bhandari is not
something unknown.
I sincerely salute Mr.Bhandari through my heart.
Srinivas Nallanagula.
